Hati update March 8, 2010
We are moving ahead with the Buckets of Hope ministry project. Many churches have shown an interest in participating by either filling buckets or making a financial donation. Either method of participation is greatly appreciated. The buckets will be distributed over a period of time by local Southern Baptist Church members, providing them the opportunity to connect with the disaster victims and share the Gospel.
Southern Baptists have medical teams in place ministering in a physical way as well as spiritually. Power is being provided by geneerators with a battery backup, so this is still a major concern where we are ministering.
At this point, Ohio has not sent SCBO Disaster Relief Volunteers to Haiti. We are in a wait and see mode, since there is still work to be done on security and housing provisions for the volunteers. We want to make sure volunteers are going to a safe enviornment and will be provided for themselves, rather than to possibly become a part of those needing assistance and further burdening the ministry effort. Air travel is restricted iin Port au Prince. Delta and Spirit have suspended all flights until further notice. The Haiti Government has asked that NO MISSION TEAMS be deployed to Por-au-Prince at this time.
